Introduction: The organisation was established in 1970 by a group of enlightened, socially committed and philanthropically inclined industrialists. The organization is a national non-government organization at the forefront of policy advocacy and research on population, health and development issues in the country. Today, the entity leads advocacy efforts and works as a think-tank dedicated to promoting and advocating effective formulation and implementation of gender sensitive population, health and development policies, strategies, and programmes in the country. The organization works with the government, both at the national and state levels and with NGOs, in the areas of community action for health, urban health, scaling up of successful pilots and social and behaviour change communication. Reason for hire:   This position heads all the programmatic interventions; leads the development, planning, delivery and management of all programmes in accordance with the strategic direction of the organization. She/He will work closely with the Executive Director in designing and executing a comprehensive strategy to increase funding opportunities from the existing donors as well as exploring new donor relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders and the senior management team on development of programme and organizational strategy. This position also assists the Executive Director in developing long-term plans that support the vision of the organization. The Director Programmes will be guided by the Executive Director for implementation of the organisations vision and programmes. Roles & Responsibilities: Major Responsibilities- Ensure coordination and administration of all aspects of the programme including planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling program activities in collaboration with all the stake holders (private and government) both at the national and state levels and the programmes and projects funded by the organization Provide direction and guidance to the programme division/ projects for the development and management of integrated strategy aligned to departmental work plans Ensure preparation of project proposals for funding support to be made by the Foundation and report of activities of the Foundation for the Executive Director, for submission to the Executive Committee/ Governing Board Develop and maintain key long-term relationships with donors and prospects. Manage donor research and prospecting Identify funding opportunities. Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical processes are carried out in a timely manner Ensure monitoring indicators/ parameters are in place while project preparation and objective setting Review progress of projects against work plan and monitoring indicators, and report to the Executive Director Assist the Executive Director to ensure that donors are updated on the progress on projects periodically and feedback on improvements Ensure that effectiveness, impact and direction of the programme are regularly reviewed and acted upon, and findings reported in a timely manner to the Executive Director, donors and others as appropriate Work with teams of internal and external experts to develop and submit proposals and budgets to prospective donors, in line with the organisations strategic objectives Constitute and operate the Internal Review Committee (IRC). Apprise new project proposals submitted to the organisation for grant making to further their vision. Identify advocacy opportunities with key influencers, arrange for meetings to establish and maintain a core group of champions Supervise both internal and externally funded projects ensuring compliance with donors, preparation and timely submission of periodical progress reports Collaborate with different teams for developing material required for advocacy and to conduct relevant studies for advocacy on family planning Identify and build relationships with other organizations working on advocacy on family planning and increase coverage of family planning in the media Supervise and review documentation of key activities/ initiatives. Collaborate with the Director Finance in submission of the financial reports to the donors. Conduct performance appraisals of direct reports, identify strengths and weaknesses, provide supportive vision and on-the-job mentoring to build staff capacity Guide direct reports in building effective and accountable teams, ensuring members of the team receive appropriate training and guidance in organizational approaches and standards Collaborate with Executive Director and Director Finance in developing reports on all projects and collaborations, for the Governing Board, on a quarterly basis Minor Responsibilities Develop relationships with donors and prospects. Manage donor research and prospecting Advise and guide the advocacy team on identifying advocacy opportunities with key influencers, arrange for meetings to establish and maintain a core group of family planning champions Guide different teams for developing material required for advocacy. In collaboration with Head Core Grants and Knowledge Management identify opportunities and design relevant studies for advocacy on family planning Supervise and review documentation of key activities/ initiatives. Collaborate with the Director Finance in submission of the financial reports to the donors.     Note: The roles and responsibilities outlined above are not meant to be an exhaustive list of tasks. Excellent presentation skills and capability to represent the organization in professional forums.  EXPERIENCE   Must Haves A PhD or Master’s degree in Public Health, Medical Sciences, or Social Sciences Minimum 15 years of total experience with atleast 5 years in a leadership position. Excellent skills in designing and developing new programs, managing the delivery of multi State, multi partner programs through strict monitoring and quality control. Broad knowledge and experience in organization development and people management in a large-scale, multi location organization. Expertise in hiring, mentoring and managing high caliber teams. Proven track record in advocacy, networking and fundraising. Prior experience of donor management and networking to broaden the donor base is preferable. Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders like, other civil society organizations, donor, medical community and Government. Outstanding interpersonal skills, including above average oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization.
